I have read on the forums about people paying $29 / tire for road hazard protection. Can that just cover the tires and not the rims? I can't imagine it would be the same coverage offered for $599. I am not inclined to take this coverage at that price.
For $29 / tire, I would definitely take it.

Any advice on the pricing would be greatly appreciated.
The tire and rim coverage quotes I got from couple of Lexus dealers in the Midwest for a new RX is $350/2 yr, $395/3 yr, $425/4 yr and $450/5 yr. All with zero deductible and issued by Lexus so it's valid nationwide at all Lexus dealers. These are full retail rates and some dealers will discount from that. If your dealer is trying to sell you the 5-yr coverage at a "discounted" rate of $599, they are lying to you because the suggested retail is only $450.

I am glad I didn't take the Lexus coverage. I bought a tire hazard warranty from a local tire retailer for $19/ tire and it covers the life of the tire. It does not cover the rims, but that will be fine for me.
