HELP ! Hatch Door hits garage and then closes again !
Hi Guys...I just picked up my 2004 Lexus RX330 Ultra Premium. The problem is that the power rear hatch opens to hit my garage door and them returns to the close position. How crazy is this?? I can use my hatch in the garage at all. Is there any way to adjust the open height of the power rear hatch? Is replacing the garage door my only option? I wouldn't even mind manually opening the hatch if this is an option.
Thanks for the help,
Al

No adjustment that I have ever heard of for the hatch. You must have a very low door in your garage? If you raise it by hand and just let it rest on your garage door it should be fine.
When you power it up it looks for resistance and its finding it on the way up then closing--normal

agree with booyah.
if you open it manually, it shouldnt close automatically when there is resistance. however, when you push the auto open button, then it will close upon resistance, safety issue.

Out of Warranty
"Doctor, doctor - my arm hurts when I do this!"
"Stop doing that."
If you are going to use the power opening feature, it has to have room to open fully. Otherwise, open it manually, don't open it in the garage, or trade for a taller garage. See? Problem solved!

Is it hitting the part of the door that hangs down in the opening, or the part that's horizontal above the car? If it's the former, pull forward 2 feet. If it's the latter, you'll have to open it manually when in the garage, as the others said.

The garage has certain physical dimensions and the car has its physical dimensions too. If there is a problem, that's not because of the car is crazy, but because they are "incompatible". That's why some people I know would not buy a car until they can park it in their garage first. That is forsight.

My garage door hit, too but I discovered that its height was adjustable (the door not the car's hatch) so by moving the whole door up one notch my hatch could open. However, the garage door must be closed first! One day I goofed and backed up the car with the hatch open and the door open. I have a tiny vertical scratch right under the rear windshield wiper arm!

Wow your garage is TINY. I don't consider mine large by any means, but in the usual parking position, there's a foot between the back of the RX and the door, and then 2.5 feet between the front and the cabinets, where there's another 2 feet to the wall.
Do they really make garages that are only 16 feet deep? So a Camry can touch both the front wall and the door at the same time?
