Strange flapping noise from undercarriage

Many of you made wishful comments that Lexus would take care of it for later models. Well, I have 2007 rx350 and have the same flopping noise at 60 mph and above. The car also has weak front end bushings. I had Lexus dealer to replace all replaceable bushings at 40k miles for rattles and squeaks. Now the car has 70k miles and the car is making the squeaks again. Oh, I am driving the car in Pyeongtaek Korea. Roads are rough and has countless speed bumps in Korea.

I just spent two weeks in and around Seoul. Your roads are challenging on a suspension. I was amazed at how tight our Hyundai Santa Fe was with 140000 km on it. It must have been built with those speed bumps in mind!

Had the noise on a long trip to Memphis. Had someone checking under driver seat, checking roof etc. I finally found the issue with a piece of plastic under the car that would flap in the wind. There is an earlier post where they added some pipe covering to the end of the plastic. I added styrafoam and noise is gone.

Rsen99 and Bon, thanks for your replies. Since South Korea does not have Home Depot. I went to equivelent store and found the pipe protecting wrapping sponge similar to shown on pictured example. Now the next question? How do you keep the sponge wrap from falling off the plastic cover? I am thinking about using silcone to glue it in place. Any ideas?

I am surprised nobody helped this guy out! This topic was covered many times before. Lexus even has a repair kit. You get in trouble when you take i into service (oil changes, etc) and the reattach the plastic shield the wrong way.

THANK YOU/THANK YOU/ THANK YOU. After reading this post i went out in the yard, looked and there was the piece of plastic that was causing all the problems. I just pinned it, two small S/S screws to the underbody. Took three minutes. My 2005 Chev didn't ever have double side carpet tape holding stuff on. Take about goofy cheap. What was LEXUS thinking? Trying to save 20 cents.... Thanks again folks. Jamie

Wow, old thread! I located the flapping shield but this thread confirmed it. Mine started flapping after driving in the snow for a few days. I suspect some ice and snow bent the plastic down so it catches the air and flaps since it never flapped until driving back from the snow. I put a piece of aluminum stock between the shield and car through the two studs in the center and riveted it to the front flappy portion of the shield. Just a metal brace hidden under the shield.

Does it happen after driving by signs like this?
I couldn’t resist, sorry. I second that it could be a plastic splash shield. They are easy to remove and take a test run without.
also, there is a product called chassis ears, it allows you to clip it to various parts of the undercarriage to listen for sounds in components. If it’s not the splash shield

This is an old problem.
I tried to copy the photo that was posted on ClubLexus forum but no luck. Here is the link you can refer to learn how to fix this annoying problem.
