Adaptive Laser Cruise
I have a 2005 RX 330 that didn't have the laser cruise installed. The dealer tried to tell me that it was only available if I had the "Performance Package" and that it was hard to get that package anyway.
My questoin is: can the laser cruise be added, and if so, how difficult/expensive would it be?
Thanks
John

I thought about this same question when I got my 330. I had the dealer try to find a unit with laser cruise, but didn't have any luck.
I think it might be quite difficult. First issue is the instrument cluster. The laser cruise has a second display, right above the odometer. It's about the same size as the odometer, and it's an LCD readout - not just a simple indicator light. Second issue is the complexity of the computer program. A different program is loaded into the ECU if the car has laser cruise, obviously because the speed changes can be more dramatic than just applying more or less gas. Third issue is whether or not the wiring harness exists for connecting the front emitters and sensors into the system.

I would say it's not going to be possible to perform this.
Way too much things to add. Specially the computer parts. Inputs from the distance and how the computer needs to calculate the amount of braking or acceleration is needed to keep the set distance and a whole lot of things.
It's pretty good for long distance highway travel.
