So would changing the oil & adding synthetic work & u would not have the dirty contaminated old oil still in the pan.
Tell me after a few 1000 miles or so just how good that "additive" is working, thats all I am trying to say. Clean synthetic tranny fluid will still be like new but the "additive" might be gone.

just checking to see if there was an update on this product. Also, are TSB's free, and how do you know if your used vehicle had them done? Can the dealers tell you by researching the VIN? I checked on the website when I registered the vehicle but there was nothing other than standard services done.

OK, This thread has brought me here. Just had a dealer service manager inform us that the hesitation shift between 35-40 mph on our 2004 RX330 (55,000 miles) is just the nature of the vehicle. He says the car has all the computer updates, but that the hard shift that periodically occurs is normal. It shouldn't be normal in a Lexus!
Now that I have been surfing, I see that this hard shift was a problem when these RX's were brand new as OP tkowalski noted in May '04 regarding his 2004 RX. We got ours used in 2009 with only 24k on it. Now a 2 years later it still has the shift problem that we have had it in the shop 3x for. Now we are told it is normal.

Do you have a scanner? if you do,clear the ecm. If you dont, disconnect the neg. batt terminal for a while. Then take it out for a drive. Might take care of your problem.

I am wondering how the additive worked out?? I just bought an 04 330RX. I have yet to reset the computer, and I plan to take it to the dealer for any flash updates that they may have available.

I have a 2004 Lexus RX 330 SUV. I've had 2 previous RX 300's. The new RX330 has a computerized transmission. I sometimes experience a slip, hesitation, and sometimes a clunk between 2nd and 3rd gears. It's real obvious. I have not been able to duplicate it at the dealership. It won't happen for a week sometimes and then it will do it 3 or 4 times in one day. One of the techs says it's the nature of the trans. They are not able to give out info if anyone else is experiencing this. Please if someone is experiencing this, let me know. Thanks~ TK Too much money to spend for a car with this concern!!!!

Maybe need more time to prove it, although I think the jerk or surge should tranny related,but at least it works now!
The gear oil I use is Castrol Gear Oil GL-5 80W90 [NOT full synthetic version].

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm assuming the takeaway from this thread is the intermittent "slip" from 2-3 shift is "normal" for this transmission. So, should I just stick to the plan to doing more drain and fills, or should I try to start pushing for a replacement before my warranty expires?

I bought my RX330 used and it’s been doing this between 2nd and 3rd on light acceleration since I bought it. I paid to have the transmission computer updated and that didn’t fix it. If this is considered normal, then I can live with the annoyance. But if it’s something I need to address before the tranny fails, then I’d like to do that ASAP
