Installing a K & N Air filter
Okay,
I have read most of the reports about the k & n filter and for the most part they are good. My question to those who have installed it, is ;
When you installed it did you unhook your battery so the ECU will resest once you start the vehicle up with the new filter?
And if you did unhook the battery what info did you lose on your displays?
I really don't want to do the install if stuff like the radio, and miscelleanous other info on the center console is going to be reset, or things like the trip/ odometer settings, which I imagine must have a back up lithium battery or something in there.
It is usually recommended that you reset the ECU anytime you do any changes to the engine that might involve a sensor or two, which is of course is what you do when you add a different filter like the K &N or the TRD filter.

Are you sure you are talking about a a filter or an intake kit. I am aware some people do disconnect the battery on installation of intake kits, but I never heard of anyone doing that with just a filter. You just open the air box take out the old one and pop in the new one. The car will adjust to the new filter.

don't bother...
After you drive to work and back the onboard computers will reset to take in to account the change, really minor. The system is setup to reset it seld to your driving habbits, conditions (temp, pressure, etc.) and will give you the best engine settings after a couple of shifts (forward - reverse) and steady driviing. just drop it in and check your instruments in a few days.
