Hi all,

While I was trying to open the rear hatch door (5th door) on my 2001 RX300, i heard something snap inside and now I can't open the rear door at all. I tried using the key to lock/unlock but to no avail. I can squeeze the door handle but the door won't open.

Any tips on how to get the rear door open? I can't even open it to do any kind of repairs. I tried searching but couldn't find a good match, except for someone mentioned a TSB, but i doubt if my local lexus dealer will cover it since my car is almost 16 yrs old..

Did you jam the door on anything? Does the latch disengage if you press the door shut while squeezing the handle?

Failing that, fold down the seat, enter the hatch area from the back seat, and pull off the hatch door panels to inspect the lock and handle mechanism.

If the release lever has become soft then most likely the the finger that is used to push the release lever has broken off.

Pop off the shell from the inside ... crawl in after folding the rear seat back .

THanks for the tip Max and Salim, .. no the door did not jam on anything. It closed properly, but when I tried to open the rear door, i heard something snap when I pressed the door handle, and now the handle does not disengage the latch no matter what i do. I'll try to pop the shell from the inside.. i did not know i can remove the shell while the door is closed.
