Oil Filter Tool
I did a quick search, but am in a hurry ,so sorry if this is a repeat question.
I took my RX into a local performance shop to have an oil change ( I have 5 free changes+ other goodies), and they could not remove the oil filter. They stated they needed a special tool? Is this the case and if so, can I buy this tool or is their another way to easily reomove the oil filter?
Thanks in advance for your help!

You need a cap wrench. They fit on a drive ratchet.
For easiest removal, use an extension for the ratchet.
Thecap wrench looks like this: http://www.autopart.com/Tools/file/part94.htm

Yes, it is a pain. There is a belt you can buy that will help you remove it. I did this once, and it was such a pain I switched to K&N oil filters, because they have a piece which you can use a wrench. The SST (Special Service Tool) they are talking about is like a hexagonal (I think) piece that fits on the body of the filter and you turn it like a wrench. It took me over an hour to get the filter off with the belt, but it takes just seconds for a mechanic with an SST. Lexus in San Antonio ordered one of these parts for me.

kut, getting the right size filter cap wrench is a bit tricky.
To get the correct wrench size it is best to put your hands on the filter (a new one the same as in on the engine right now) and take it to an auto parts store like NAPA or AutoZone. Have them give you a cap wrench to fit. I've seen 3 different sizes on the RX engines (have the cap wenches to show for it!). This is the easiest way to go. Also oil change tips here.

do you RX300 guys (not sure if a 330 member has had an oil change yet) also get a nasty arm burn from the manifold above the oil filter like the ES/Camry/etc. folks do? or is there more "space" to move around in an RX engine bay? The Highlander has more space to move your arms to prevent burning....but not sure about the RX (currently contemplating an RX330 in the family as well).

Yeah! I have one on my left arm from changing the filter in the middle of winter...in a hurry. It should only happen to you once hopefully... Scar is still slightly there but slowly fading.

Which cap size/code is the one you need (Code A - K)? I have the 90915-YZZB9 filter. I just called a Toyota dealer and they wanted something like $35.00 for the SST 09228-07501.

EnzoRX,
Sorry, I don't know the size...Hmmm, the one I got from my Toyota dealer was under $15, but I don't think it was a genuine Toyota part. If you've got a 90915-YZZB9 filter handy, just carry it to an Autozone or PepBoys and check for proper fitment.
Good luck.

Okay...will do Daddy-O.
Yeah, I think the dealer quoted me for the genuine Toyota part. Kinda had a mild cardiac arrest there when he told me $35 for a filter cap wrench.
