Default Unable to read code

The engine light has been on for some time and I have taken it to several places to have it diagnosed. The issue I have is that of the 4 places I have taken it no one has been able to pull the code(s). This has not been an issue until recently as of now after driving for 5-10 minutes is stop and go traffic the transmission is being locked out of overdrive. If I turn the car off and let it sit for an hour or two it will again go through the same exercise. For the first 5-10 minutes the transmission shifts fine then after 5-10 minutes it will be locked out. On the highway, as long as I get to the highway within 5-10 minutes it will still shift into overdrive but once I get off the highway again it will be locked out.

My question which I don't think there is a correct answer is of all of the built in safety features Toyota built in to lock the car out of OD where should I start? Or since the car is 16 years old with 225K miles on it should I cut my loses and move on.

Thanks,

Welcome to CL.

I would not go randomly trying to fix any code that might lock the overdrive.

Examine if the connector has been damaged or the ECU has failed.

What kind of places did you go to read the code? Have you taken it to a Toyota/Lexus dealership to attempt to read the code with Toyota techstream?

First place was autozone the other three places have been independent shops either through recommendation or that I have taken the car to in the past. I will try and take it to a Toyota dealership and see what they say.

I read somewhere else that the tranny glitch like you described is a sign the transmission has failed.
