Default 2000 RX but want the 2001 Looks

I have a 2000 RX and have a couple of questions.

1. How do you verify that you indeed purchased a 2000 RX and not the 99 RX? Where do I look. I bought this thing used and it didn't come with a manual. (I know that's the first place I would look)

2. How do I go about upgrading my 2000 rear brake lights and clusters to the 2001 lights and clusters. Is this a simple fix? Do I need special tools? What are the OEM parts numbers to do this?

3. what is the OEM part number of the gear shift lever. I am especially looking for the handle of the gear shift lever for the 2001 RX (its got the wood trim on top whereas the 99's don't have it)

4. what is the inside door handle or ****'s OEM part number. again, the 2001's have chrome handles where as the 00's have the plastic ones. Very ugly and no different than a Toyota.

A thousand thanks to anyone who replies with good information.

You can run the Vin number. You can use the car fax website, basic free search. After you type in the Vin number, the search will return the make, model and year of the vehicle

Yes, I ran the Car Fax and it worked. Verifed 2000 model.

Please keep your suggestions coming on my other questions. Thanks again.

I don't know how much help this will give you, but I'm currently retrofitting my 1999 RX300 to a 2003 RX300. I have ordered a new spoiler, new front grille, new tail light cluster (four in all), bumper step mat and the "VSC" badges. I'm also having a wood grain kit installed and a Wheelskin put on (duo leather, tan and oak). I have used the VIN number to track down my proper paint code. I ordered all my parts from Park Place Lexus (best dealer prices I've seen; no tax and free UPS shipping and handling!). I'm having a body shop install them, along with mounting the new spoiler and other cosmetic work.

Good luck with your retrofit!

Dan,

Do you have a contact information at Park Place Lexus? I did a search on the web and found more than 4 places that have the name park place Lexus.

Thanks.

Here's the link for the dealership.

http://www.parkplacetexas.com/Dealer...DealershipID=5

If you call the 800 number, ask for Bryan Keith.

Good luck,

Here is a good post on the rear lights.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...ghlight=badams

So far on my 1999 RX300 I've done the 2001-2003 headlights, grill, taillights (real Lexus taillights, not aftermarket) and the rear bumper protector. I have the old spoiler and would need to do a lot of body work to add the new spolier so I have given up on this mod.

I never noticed that the shifter or door handles were different?

How much bodywork is necessary to change to the new-style spoiler? I have the old-style spoiler on a black 99 RX. The ones I have seen, on non-black RXs, look really good, but on a black RX it does not offer much of a change.

The old style spolier mounts in three spots on the top of the tailgate. The newer style mounts more on the side top of the tailgate. You would need to fill in the two side top holes and maybe even the top middle hole.

You'd think Lexus would have made it mount using the same holes, but since the newer spolier is so different they couldn't. Next time you see a newer one in a parking lot or something walk up and look where it is mounted and compare it to your older spoiler.

Oh well. Maybe if I get rear-ended and need a new tailgate I'll do it. Not worth the money otherwise.

Here is the stuff I know of that is different on the 2001-2003 year RX300 as opposed to the 1999-2000 year model(s):

Headlights (2001-2003 are chrome inside)

Taillights (2001-2003 are chrome inside)

Back bumper protector (1999-2000 doesn't have this at all)

Front grill (2001-2003 is slightly different looking)

VSC emblem on front doors (1999-2000 doesn't have this at all)

Gas tank is larger on 2001-2003

Shifter **** is different? I never noticed but someone else stated this.

Inside door handle release is plastic on older models and chrome on newer models? I never noticed, and doubt 99% of the poplulation would, but someone else stated this.

2001-2003 models have "Lexus" on all the glass, I know 1999 says "Toyota", not 100% sure if the 2000 says "Lexus" or "Toyota", probably depends on when in 2000 it was made.

I can't think of anything else cosmetically, I'm sure the list is longer than this though.

Rear spoiler is different on 1999 year model (if you have a spoiler at all). The 1999 spoiler is flat against the rear window and the newer year model spoiler is more like a wing. Not an easy switch-a-roo, must fill in holes and paint on the rear gate in order to make the change from the 1999 spoiler to the 2000-2003 spolier.
