My 02 lexus has 120K, and started slowly leaking oil. From where I couldn't tell, but it was enough
to see very small droplets on my driveway , oil film forming under the the oil pan, and of course the smell of burnt oil from the engine compartment.

I have always used synthetic brand, mostly mobil 1 then castrol syntec, 5w30.

I switched to castrol gtx high milage 5w30.

Engine leak is gone.

engine running quieter too.

Sometime because the oil filter is hard to reach it gets put on loose then leaks on manifold and smells as it burns. Before it is hot it drops to the ground as oil is pumped through the filter on startup. Next oil change the new filter gets put on tight and leak is gone. You may have experienced the seal swelling additives that stopped a leak in a seal with the HM oil though. It just seams odd you couldn't find it even though it was bad enough to drip to the floor and smell too.
