Piece dangling from my undercarriage
I'm currently on a 2300 mile road trip relocating to CA. I'm around 200 miles short of my destination. Its literally just me, my dogs, and a few things startinglife out again on a tiny budget. The last hour or two the engine has really been groaning, and a weird flapping noise that seems to be coming from the driver wheel. Also when I put my foot on the gas it's not getting much. The brakes are slow to react too. Right now I'm at a rest stop letting it cool down. I took a look underneath and found this. Can somebody tell me what it is? You can see the piece dangling down and has come away from where it should be fitted.

Ok I googled it. I've had cel on for over a year. It has been looked at but couldn't be figured out. Last year I had a new compressor and fluids changed for AC and still it wouldn't work. I assumed it was to do with that

See if you can stick the oxygen sensor back onto the exhaust and secure it by using nuts. It looks' like there is still one stud left.
You need to get the CEL read and see what the codes are. Autozone will do this for free.
I suspect one of the codes is for the dangling 02 sensor.

The noise is definitely from this. Is there any way you can secure the sensor back on, possibly with zip-ties. Although they may not last long due to the severe heat.
What do you mean by to cool down? Did the temp. gauge go up past middle?
This sensor is mainly for emissions, if it were me, I'd continue with the journey as it is only another 2 hrs of driving.

No the temp didn't do anything. I'd been driving for around 12hrs and this old car needed a break ha. It's done 2000 miles since Monday.
I have a feeling the dangly piece didn't just happen. The joint where nuts have come away dont look like fresh breaks. Recently autozone found 3 probs p1135 p1359 and p0125.

Happened to me. Find a Midas or other muffler shop. They can reattach it. Cost me $150. Do it quickly before the sensor breaks; make sure it isn't dragging on the ground.

Exhaust reaches very high temp and jb weld (epoxy) which you can tap/thread/etc just burns off.
Exhaust shop is good place to visit for solutions.
