U140E Transmission Woes
I recently obtained a '99 2WD model that would not move in gear. Removed the pan and valve body, and cleaned out a ton of aluminum and steel debris. Now with the pickup clean, the vehicle moves, but does not have 1st gear. Shifts into the rest of the gears including reverse just fine.
I assume from the notoriety of these transmissions going out and the amount of debris that my planetary gear set has fallen apart, but my concern is, has this damaged the case any? If the case could still be intact, I'll be looking at a rebuild kit + new planetary gear set (with upgraded casing and 4 planetary gears instead of the original 3). If the case is likely damaged I'll save myself the time and just get a re-man unit.
So while I can't ask any of you to diagnose my transmission for me, what have any of you transmission experts seen in the past? Is case damage likely or do you think this may be worth tearing down?

The reman typically have a price which includes core price and the core price is reimbursed only if the core is in usable state.

I'm aware of Toyota's core policy. I was asking for anyone that has tore down these transmissions before, what kind of damage have they found around the case where the planetary pins have come apart? I know for sure the pins dug into the drums.
