Great advice from this thread.. Bought a new antenna mast on ebay for ~$13 and replaced my old one in about 2 hours. Had to remove antenna mast motor control system in order to remove broken plastic cord from old mast. I never would have diagnosed cause of failure (broken plastic cord attached to mast which required removal from mast control gears) without instructions from this thread.

I'm thinking I'm in the same boat. My antenna will not full expand, it goes only half way. It would retract fully though.

I does make a grinding noise when it retracts.

I ordered a mast from Amazon, and am thinking it must be broken somewhere.
