Default Strange idle speed and power loss

Guys,

I need your help again. I have came across a very strange problem. My 1999 RX300 suddenly got a high idle rpm (around 1500-2000) after driving for around 10-15 minutes. And this problem comes up, the engine sound has significantly changed and a strong of power lossing. What may be the cause?

Do you have the Check Engine Light On?

How many miles and when was the last major service done?

That could still be an IACV issue. I've occasionally got a high RPM, then it drops and stays low and I have to go clean the IACV to fix the issue.

I think Lexmex is right IACV problem. Look DIY for IACV in the forum.

Would that be a clogged catalytic converter since my car seems hotter than before under the body and bad exhaust smell. This problem occurs when the car is hot (drives for 10 minutes)

When this problem occurs, the car seems have half of the power loss on the road. And the sound is just too strange.

Do you have any glow under there at night. Also are there any exhaust leaks at that location. We rarely get clogged cats with these vehicles.

The only other thing that rings a bell here that would do something like that is a bad ignition coil and/or spark plug and more raw fuel is being dumped back into the exhaust. That situation will indeed bog/slow down the power in the vehicle.

Here comes the first error code, P1130 and more to come.

However, will a P1130 lead to this power loss situation after driving for around 15 minutes?

Lexmex, I will ask my tech guy to check the spark plug. Let you know the result later.

Another code is P1354.
What is it?

If the Check Engine Light (CEL) is lit and you got that code, then yes it will bog down your driving (not as much as a bad ignition oil) but it will hurt your mpg or km/l.

P1130 is an A/F (air/fuel) sensor that is located behind the engine.

P1354 is a VVT system malfunction bank 2, which can often be related to bad OCV (oil control valve)

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...ease-help.html

My advice would be to fix the P1130 code first as P1354 (and other codes) can sometimes come about from a bad A/F sensor. Then got back and check to see if the P1354 still comes up. Other codes that sometimes come up with an A/F sensor code like P1130 are P0125 and P0171.

Lexmex, you're always the guy I can trust.
I will ask my tech guy to clean up the A/F sensor first. And then try to change the OCV.

However, can the OCV really lead to my sudden power loss when driving the car (i.e. when the engine is warmed up for 15 minutes)

I will let you know the result later.

Many thanks.

Hi Lexmex,

I have changed the OCV and everything went back to normal again. However the fuel efficiency is a little bit high. I have reset the ECU and let's see if the computer will learn again to save some more gas.

Thank you very much.
