Debating which oil to use
After reading many threads, I've come down to Mobil 1 10w-30 or PU 5w-30 (both found at Wal-Mart) ...
I hear the PU cleans out everything real good.
Then I see many people liking 0w-30 on this forums.
Opinions? What exactly is the difference between the two?
And would anybody even suggest 10w-30 oil?
Thanks

The weigh range suggested by manufacturer is stamped on the filler cap and in the owner's manual. For the longest time I have been using a tight range (spread of 10) based on locale.
As long as you change the oil regularly and use a right weight for the region you drive, you should be fine.

Some people, myself included, have oil consumption issues with Mobil 1 (any weight in my case). With any other oil, I experience no measurable oil consumption.
PU and PP are great choices, and perfect for these 1MZ-FE, considering how hard they are on oil. I'm currently on PP 5W-30, just changed it last week.
If you want to read up on oil's check out BITOG> http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/
BTW: The RX300 is back spec'd to use a 5W-20 and/or a 0W-20.

In addition to 5W30. This appears to be a reference. See: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/att...plications.pdf

I`m using PP 5W-20 now and I`m very pleased with the results. Much peppier, cold operation has improved big time!, pulls hills easier. Just an overall big improvement. Not going back to 5W-30 any time soon thats for sure.

Wow! Crazy at how different oil performs for people.
I guess my best bet is to 'experiment' with different types of oil through my next few oil changes and see what works best for me.
At the moment, I'm using Mobil 1 0w-30 oil. No problems so far. Noticed my engine turns on really quick once already warmed up. Dunno if thats just me or that its always been like that.

I will say the best running 5W-30`s I have used are;
1) Pennzoil Ultra
2)Valvoline Synpower, both the Synthetic and the Conventional oils
3)Castrol GTX (my 05 ran especially well on this oil) I would go back to GTX
0W-30 AFE Mobil-1 Also runs extremely well in these motors. So I would have to say you`v made a good choice with this oil. My 2001 RX ran beautifully on this oil. Where as my 05 really likes the PP 5W-20, and GTX.
* I would not recommend the 10W-30. No need for this oil.
