hi. used the search function and found this thread. i'm in a similar situation with a broken key fob. since this thread is almost a year old just seeing if there is anything different that is out there to resolve this issue. if i'm reading it right, based on this i would go to ebay, and purchase a fob/blank key, and then go to the dealer to get the key cut? and then i can just transfer the contents of my broken key/fob to the new one? i did contemplate doing the superglue thing, but, then i thought about the whole battery replacement thing so, i decided against it.

Don't even need to go to the dealer... many locksmiths will do this, or, there are companies on ebay that will cut them for you so all you have to do is transfer the electronics once done... those companies either need a key code or a clear picture of your existing key...

I visited four locksmiths with pretty good-sized shops, in D/FW, called three others, all said they couldn't do it.

My dealer was able to order a new key blank with empty shell. They cut the key and I switched the guts from the old key to the new one. Expensive, shell plus cutting was 96. I did not have time to chase around and find a smith who would cut the key. I did not think to ask the dealer what they charge just to cut a key if I provide the blank.

My dealer usually charges $25 to cut a key -- less than I expected. They're cutting and programming an eBay key blank for me as a favor since I bought a car from them which was missing one. So far, none of us have been able to get it to program. The guy says he'll take the cut key back if it doesn't work. I need to find a reliable source for one more key. I'd like to have three, which I think is the maximum.

I used ebay (using my key code) and received two cut keys within a few business days. Once I received them, I unscrewed the electronics from the broken one and screwed it into the new key shell. Took all of 5 minutes.

To replace a broken case, go to E-Bay and search for "REPAIR your LEXUS 3 BUTTON REMOTE KEYS to our PRE-CUT QUALITY SHELL / KEY #151150124222." Give them your Key Code and they will send you a pre-cut key with an empty case. Just open each and swap innerds and away you go. Cost me $15 and change which included freight - what better way could you go? Oh they also sent me a spare battery.

I need to buy a new key as well. Can anyone tell me where to look for the key code ?
I've lost the manual, I hope it is not with it.
Thanks

The key code is a with the dealer based on the vin or it can be on the on the little tag attached to the flat key. All it does is determine the notch pattern on the key to match with the so-called tumblers in the locks.

I had a dealer tell me that this was a common problem. When mine finally gave out, I called a few dealerships in the area that all quoted around $300 + $100-200 to "program it". I had asked for full key since I needed a spare anyway. Using the CL discount, I got it for ~$180 with ~$20 shipping at Sewell. All I had to do was send in proof of ownership with VIN number and I received the cut key a few weeks later with instructions on programming.
If you just need to replace the shell, Sewell has it for $87.96 cut and $64.46 uncut (CL price)

YMMV depending on year

IME my local Lexus dealer was able to give me a key code when presented with a working key and the also had vehicle info from servicing.
And, you can find many vendors of the housings on eBay (sorry if this is repetitive) and also with some looking around find a local locksmith to cut keys...if dealers is not competitive.
