Great write up on P0171 and P0174
Some of you may have already read this but I thought I would share it. Very informative.

Thanks for the link - it is outstanding. As I posted in another thread, I have found a couple sources which said P0171 can come from a "lazy" A/F sensor. However, code58 wrote in another thread on this forum that he believes P0171 is unrelated to the A/F sensor and he has never been wrong about anything. So, if code 58, Lexmex and this link all say P0171 is not caused by a bad A/F sensor, I would go with that. Having said that, replacing a suspect A/F sensor at 80k probably isn't wasting too much money because they are pretty close to the end of their useful life at that point..

What were your codes and what was the fix? Thanks.

My first sensor (by the radiator, was throwing a p1150) went bad at 150k miles, so I wouldn't say that they have lifespan of 80k.
My second sensor (after catalytic converter, kept throwing a p0420), went bad at around 160k miles.

Good point. I had to replace B1S1 on my RX300 and Avalon (CA emission so it uses same A/F sensor as RX) at about 80k. I should have said it isn't unusual for them to go bad at 80K.
