My Car Battery Died
Hey guys,
Did this happen to you? I have a 2001 Vapor Blue and 4 months ago, my battery died. I had to jump start it and I brought it to Lexus. They found the battery at low cell and gave me a new battery at no cost. Cool. Now, today, the car won't start again. I know all the doors were closed and nothing was left on. Again, I had to jump start it and I brought it back to Lexus. This time, they just charged it and gave it back to me. They said I don't drive enough and that the car doesn't have enough miles to charge. I was like OK, should I be driving it more often and more fast? Everything's fine. It's just a hassel to postpone some of your agenda for the day and to go to the dealer to have it check. Anybody have the same situation?
Thanks.

load factor
Mostly drive at night with fogs and HB on?
Even at idle your RX' alternator should be able to charge the battery unless you have an inordinately high electrical load.

Well, I have my battery changed just a few months ago but i have a 99 RX, I changed to an Optima battery which is the best one and it worked so smoothly with all my audio equipment running.

Other option is to purchase a battery charger and let it charge overnight once a month (or more often).

Speaking of Dead Batteries
Does anyone know if there is a way to not lose all your presets (radio, memory seats, etc.) when you disconnect the negative battery terminal? I have been doing some installs and...man....it is a pain to reset stuff each time.

Instead of removing gnd (kill all supply), you can pull fuses of the circuits you are going to mess with. {note: Safest method is to disconnect the battery}
The other solution is for quicker recovery (driver seat memory)
Hit your settings button before you disconnect.
The first thing you do after connecting the battery is store your settings. (without moving anything).
Driver 2 settings would have to be searched and set again.
You will have to re-program your radio.
I suspect that dealer downloads (or transcribes) the setting (even radio presets) before disconnecting the 12v and reloads them before handing you the keys.

oh well, guess its just something i will have to deal with. I have seen a product where you plug a 9v battery into the cigarette lighter and it is supposed to keep all your settings...but i dont know if it works....
Anyways thanks for the info.

Someone told me you should drive with only your parking lights on for a while (day of course). That will send that extra juice back to the battery and help charge it faster.
Give it a try!

Harrier,
If you garage your RX, check out batterytender.com.
My 72 year old mother drives less than 4000 miles/yr. She'll regularly go several days without starting her car. Been doing this for a few years. No battery problems...I would know, as I get a call whenever there's any car problem.
Hando,
I can't run with only parking lights in my 02 RX.
When I click to first position on the light stick, my parking lights come on, as do my taillights...and my DRL's remain on.

Same thing happen to my boss 93’ LX400 and my old Celica. The battery die every 1 ½ year on my Celica. After replaced with pep boy battery, it run much longer. But my 99’ RX has no problem so far.

Paddy,
Thanks for the link. I baby the RX in the garage in the weekdays. When the weekend comes, I take her out for a cruise and hope it starts. Now everythings fine and I check out that trickle charger. Thanks again.
