New member hello, and tire questions...
Hello to all RX forum members!
I've had a 2001 for 30,000 miles now, but I just found this forum today - and in perfect timing because I need new shoes...
I live in Wisconsin, so I'm driving in snow with the AWD model, but I want the best performing tire possible (plus I really like the look of a wider more agressive tire)... I have the OEM-sized 16 x 6.5 wheels with 225/70-16 tires and I'm looking at the following options:
Pirelli Scorpion ST in either 225/70-16 or 235/70-16
Kumho Ecsta STX 235/70-16
Michelin Cross Terrain in either 225/70-16 or 235/70-16
I've seen people talk about the Kumho and the Michelin, but nobody talks about the Pirelli Scorpion ST... I've also read here that you can go to a 235 w/o spacers, but that seems to be debated a bit - any definative answer?
I'm also considering spacers so I can go up to a 245 size which ultimately allows me to consider the Pirelli Scorpion Zero as well. Has anyone used spacers? How much do they cost? Is the vehicle still street legal with spacers? Anybody used the Scorpion Zeros?
I know this is a ton of questions to be asking as a new guy, but there seem to be a lot of truly knowledgeable members here... Looking forward to advice!
Thanks,
CK

thats the majority of the people here on the forums love n use. except 1 or 2 who does not like the ride quality. If i dont get rims, those are what i'm gonna go for next.
btw, welcome to CL

thanks for the reply "spin"...
I like the michelin ct's okay, but I really like the look of the Kumho Ecsta as well as the Pirelli's (both ST and Zero)...
I should also specify that when I said "best performing tire," what I'm looking for is the best handling and best looking tire - I'm not concerned with road noise, I just want a stiff tire that will corner well and do okay in less than perfect weather...
