Default 2002 RX 300 PCV Valve

I have a 2002 RX 300 and would like to clean and or replace the PCV valve.
The car has almost 80,000 miles on it and I am the second owner. I doubt the valve was ever cleaned by the original owner. Cleaning the valve is not mentioned in any of the maintenance information on the car. Apparently this is one of those items according to Lexus that never need attention. (like the fluid change in the auto trans).
Does any forum member have a description (with photos maybe) on how to remove, clean, and or replace this valve? The valve on my car looks like it is screwed into the cover on the rear of the engine and looks very difficult to get to much less get a wrench on.
Any input from forum members would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Check out posting #4 on https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...pvc-valve.html . Ours (2002 RX300) is the metal version and is easily removed with an open-end wrench. I replaced mine a few years ago, but it didn't need it.

Lexmex, did you put an oil trap in? My old mercedes had one in lieu of a pcv valve. Otherwise the oil blows into the intake manifold.....

Both the PCV valve and the hose from the front part of the block flow freely. The intake manifold is capped where the hose from the PCV valve used to go on and the hole on the plastic piece leading to the intake on the manifold is also capped. I haven't had an issue with the oil dripping anywhere.

I have a 2002 RX 300 with 80,000 miles on it.
I want to replace my PCV valve.
I was able to just apply a 1" open end wrench to my PCV valve. However corrosion has formed around the threads and I was not able to break it loose.
There is so little clearance to swing a wrench in the space that I could not apply enough force on the wrench to break the valve loose.
I shot some WD 40 around the threads but I doubt that's going to do much good.
I I cant get the valve to break loose and "unthread" then it's off to my local Toyota dealer and let them tackle it.
Before I head off to the dealer is there any suggestions that I should try to get the valve loose and removed so I can replace it?
Thank you

It has probably been 2 years since I did mine. I do recall that the OEM replacement part did have an anti-seize thread compound on the threads.

One suggestion would be to try metric tools! Try both open end and box-end wrenches. Even buying the correct size metric deep socket would be cheaper than going to a mechanic (I'm guessing that would work, and would be what a professional mechanic would use).

Thanks for the suggestion
I suppose I could try a deep socket 1" ( I have one) IF I could only get the hose off the top of the valve AND if there was enough room to even get the socket in and around all of the interferences.
It's so tight in there that it's almost impossible to get any kind of a tool on the valve at all let alone get enough torque on the tool to break the valve loose and I don't want to risk dropping anything down behind the engine.
I have a new valve ordered from my local Toyota dealer (it will be here Tuesday) and I will wait until I have it in hand before I contemplate my next move.
Thanks again for the suggestion.

try some liquid wrench, that always seems to work pretty well, theres some other stuff out there thats even better than that but i cant recall the name of it, im sure the guys at autozone or some place like that would be able to point you in the right direction as far as something to have that effect

Thanks to forum members your input.
I finally "bit the bullet" and ordered a new PCV valve for my RX 300 through my local Toyota dealer.
It came in Tuesday and I had the dealer replace it yesterday (Wednesday) to the tune of $50.00 plus the cost of the valve ($6.41)
The old valve would still "rattle" but was pretty carboned up after 80,000 miles.
I don't know if as dirty as the old valve was it was restricting the flow of crankcase vapors through it but I suspect there had to be some reduction in flow.
However I am glad I had it replaced. It's just one less item i need to be concerned about.
