Making a long blade key into a short blade key
Greetings, nice forum. I'm the new owner of a 2000 RX. I have both original keys and both are broken. I ordered new cases and they came in with long blades while mine are short. I understand that the long blade can be cut and will start the car. If possible, I would like to shorten the long blades down to the short blade length before I have them cut. My rationale is since this key design is obviously weak (as attested by all the people with broken keys) having the key stick out another 0.4 inches is only going to make the chance of breakage even better. Anyone ever tried this? Since the cases are pretty cheap, I think I will try it on the first one and let you know the results. Thanks
Although,I`m not sure that this is a good idea. Be careful with this.

It Works
I'm going to post a new thread with more info, but the short story is you can cut a long blade to a short blade length and it works just fine.
