Default Rx300 wood-trim "re-dye" *PICS*

Hey guys
I just wanted to post a few pictures of my rx300's interior wood trim that i re-stained a while back. Last summer i got sick of the boring walnut wood, so stripped the clearcoat and dyed the wood with some red alcohol ink. Then re-cleared the wood with car clearcoat. I think the darker wood fits the car so much better, it's a match to the reddish wood of the 02-04 ES.

You will also notice what look to be "volume buttons" on the wheel, but in fact i wired them up to be my radar detector and laser jammer "ON/OFF buttons. I purchased a used ES wheel on ebay and put the switches on this wheel which is a 'similar' style.

I also custom made wood on the ashtray cover, surrounding handle and on the center flip-up cup holder. Just purchased some walnut veneer from ebay, steamed it, and superglued it to the surfaces. Then sanded it, detailed it with black painted trim, stained it with the alcohol ink, and cleared it. I wanted the pieces to look VERY oem

Tell me what you guys think!

Color good... but too much wood now. I never liked those "wood dash trim" deals that added to the "wood" but you did these custom so atleast the color matches.

10 on color
5 on volume
8 on execution

Pretty good.

thanks for the compliments guys

The 99's and 00's didn't have the wood on the steering wheel or shifter =/ In 01 they made that available. You can get an 01-03 wheel for around $100, the matching airbag for ~$200 and the shifter for ~$200. It really does add luxury IMO

If anyone wants me to refinish their trim (excluding steering wheel and shifter) i'll do it for you! Only takes a couple of days

Love it! I would love to get my steering wheel refinished. The previous owner nicked it up pretty good. New business opportunity?

Nice seats!

Hey, mind if I ask what that is in the ash tray? Looks a controller or something electrical?

ha I was waiting for someone to ask about the seats :P Those are the coach edition seats i got on ebay a little while ago. Had them professionally refinished, they look brand new! I like the perforations too

Blueridge, i have my radar detector volume/setting controls and display hidden in the ashtray. I figured it would be a nice little place to store them so i can hide them when not in use Since i don't smoke i figured i had no reason to have any ashtray anyways

carguy07, i sent you a PM.

Love the wood. Don't know if anybody else has had this problems but the wood on my 1999 is "bleaching" (color getting lighter) in places. If I had your wherewithall, I'd do the same but I'd need detailed instructions ( )

What exactly did you have done to the seats after you got them?
