RX300 stereo questions
I just got a 1999 RX300 and am wanting to install my subwoofers in it. I have an amp and 2 subs. I would like to keep the stock deck if at all possible... I haven't tried yet but it seems like it would be a pain to take out the deck. Was wondering if the stock deck has the red and white plugs that go to the amp to power the subs....

Do a search here and on the other Lexus fora - there are some older posts from folks that have done this. I believe you can tap into the speaker leads as the come out of the amp under the trunk/rear seat or, even better, tap into the preamp signal before they come into the amp. The OEM head unit/CD changer are pretty good qaulity. I think the sub is all you'll need to get the sound you want.

by tapping into the pre amp wires before they connect to thestock amp, will i be able to use the stock amp for the speakers and my aftermarket amp for the subs?

Search for ipod interface or aux-in. Lexus uses differential signals l+,l-,r+,r- while the typical signals are l,gnd, r,gnd.
I know you are looking for signal out and not necessarily signals-in, but at the splice point they are the same.
Physical constraints also present problems.

Salim: I'm not absolutely certain on this but i don't think the low level audio signals are balanced. A lot of people see unusual wiring (eg twisted pair) and assume it's balanced (we were told for many years that BMW used balanced audio connections but this turned out to be incorrect, too). One sure way to tell is to have a car audio store connect the low level signals to an oscilloscope and confirm.
kikaleek88: Tapping into the pre-amp in or speaker out won't affect the rest on the system as the input impedance of your amp is sufficiently high not to draw any significant current. Of course, if these low level signals are balanced, then you'll want to use the speaker out wires.

The pre-amp levels I am referring to are the tape/radio/cd [before the volume/bass/treb/fader]. I have scoped them as I built an interface.
I have not looked at the sub-out. The sub-out is after the volume.

and use the signals from there? I assume it's speaker-level outputs.
if the aftermarket amp has speaker-level inputs, then it should be
pretty easy... shouldn't be too bad for feeding a subwoofer, no?

thanks so much for all of the ideas i recently found a converter that taps into the rear speakers and converts the low signals to rca plugs for my new amp now i just need to figure out where the remote wire for the amp needs to connect....
