Clunks, creaks, groans, etc.
My one-owner (me) 1999 RX300 has 160K and all suspension components are original. I'm inclined to replace the shocks, front and rear, but don't think that will cure all of the various creaks, groans, rattles, etc. What else should be replaced? There must be a variety of bushings that connect the engine cradle and rear suspension carrier to the body; are those bushings replaceable by a reasonably competent DIYer? TIA.

Well, after I replaced my shocks recently, the groans, clunks, etc. went down noticeably. What I would do first is replace the shocks and then see what noise there is afterwards.

You stole my Thread!!! thanks for this post.
My 99 RX with 96k miles is making this "bump/clunk" noise when going over bumps and while turning right (bump) plus it sounds like a groaning that went away after I sprayed the mounts with WD40 but came back. What else besides the front struts should I be looking at? How much should I be looking to spend and where is the best place to buy them struts/shocks? Ebay has the KYB for about $330...
Thanks all!
BTW, I'm getting a master key with remote, cut, new for $139 shipped from this vendor on Ebay. Sounds good? (thread jacking in progress) LOL

All four, no installation. I haven't even called a local shop to find out how much they charge, which I will do tomorrow because if someone charges me 300-400 to do the struts, I'd rather pay and not have to deal with it.

sounds like my moms old amc eagle stationwagon, that thing squeaked and groaned. It was embarrasing. Her problem was the rubber bushings.Try going under it and squirting the bushings with silicone spray.(makes a big differance)
