Fuel Filler Neck Spring Hinge
I went to fill up the other day and the little hinged door at the opening of the fuel neck is gone.
3 questions:
1. What can happen if its not there?
2. What damage can it cause if it fell in?
3. Can it be replaced and how?

Are you talking about the metal flap inside the filler hole?
It has been reported some came with it and some did not. may be they stayed stuck open or fell in the tank
If it fell in, then dont worry it will not be pulled in the fuel line. The filter will trap the spring.
I would leave it alone and not worry about it. It does provide added protection against catching objects will filler open but nothing more than that.
If you must fix it, then the gas tanks will have to be dropped. To recover, the tank emptied and pieces pulled out of the filler tube or inspection holes or the fuel pump.

Yes, the lttle spring hinged flap at the opening of the neck.
My plan was to do nothing but was curious to find out what purpose it really serves. I am 99% sure it used to be there but it wasnt something I really paid attention to. Until last year I lived in NJ where I very rarely had to pump my own gas.

Assuming it was there ...
1. Prevent solids to drop into the tank with the gas cap open.
2. disperse fumes when you open the gas cap.
3. reduce splash spills when you loose your gas cap.
I am out of ideas.
