Default WANT! wooden Steering wheel

Looking to buy a WOODEN steering wheel!!!!! I have a 1999 RX300, and I hate the leather steering wheel. I hate the feel and there isnt too good of grip while driving a long distance. IF anyone has one for sale please do a reply to this post thanks.

Look into it more closely if you want a 2001 RX OEM wood/leather steering wheel. The airbag shape is different for '99-'00 and '01-'02. I have been trying to do the same myself. You will have to buy a new airbag, but I am not sure if the '01+ airbag will work on the '99-'00 RX. The wiring harness may be different.

I have been trying to find out for a while now, if you can confirm that it will absolutely work then, please, let me know.

Oh also, check the ClubLexus classifieds. There was one in there not too long ago. Check ebay periodically too.

There is somebody selling one on eBay right now. I was looking at it this morning. However, he wants you to send your RX300 steering wheel to him first so you'd have to survive without driving for a while.

Be aware though, while the wheel is OEM, it is not an OEM wood/leather wheel. It has been converted to wood/leather. From the picture it looks like a good job at the leater and wood matching too. I hope they all look like that. The company is Creative Car Concepts, they are out of Florida - that's the reason there is a core charge, it's a company and they need a wheel trade in order to make more wheels.

If you buy the wheel from them I think what you do is send your wheel in once you get theirs, so there won't be any downtime with your RX, but lag time before you get your $100 dollars back. If you do go with this company please let me know, I want to see how it looks on your REX!

i've spoken briefly with the parts guy at the local lexus dealership here and was told that the hub from the woodgrain steering wheel is different from the hub on the leather one. he's seen the swap done on a GS300 (from leather to the wood off a newer GS) and it worked fine. you'd need to get a new hub (not sure which part is the "hub") as well as getting the steering wheel. not sure how accurate this info is as i was in a hurry that day...i'm interested in hearing from anyone that manages to do the swap too...

I'd like to know what he meant by hub too. If he meant the airbag then that'll make sense. If changing out the airbag to the newer one works, than I'm golden!

I'm going to try and compare the wiring harness on my '00 airbag to that of an '01 RX airbag to see if they are the same. If so, then I just my be able to do the swap. Anyone with a pic of an '01 airbag wiring harness? I'm not giving up here yet, I've been trying for too long!

Default What hub?

I made the switch. No hub change... The air bag works. It comes with a connector cover just remove it and install onto the new wheel. Disconnect the battery for 5 min. then do the change over. Its expensive but It does work. Cut down on the price of the wheel an get one on ebay ( factory 01). The air bag can be purchased at performance auto parts.com

What year RX do you have? Do you have the '99-'00 RX with the older style airbag. Are you saying that you replaced both the wheel and the airbag to the '01 model and it worked out alright?

I've been wanting to do this for while now (already have the '01 wheel - I have an '00 RX) but have been trying to confirm that the new airbag will connect to the wiring harness properly.

Thanks for your help.

It works. Should work on a 98, 99 and the old wheels will work on a 01, 02 they are the same part numbers.

Thanks so much jzezo, that makes my day!! I've been trying to find out wheter or not the '01 airbag works on the '00 RX for a looong while. You told me exactly what I needed to know. I've got the '01 wheel through someone on ebay and now all I need to do is get the airbag. You're right, they are not cheap.
