Thanks already--from an RX Noob
Hello. In July we purchased a '99 RX300 with 86k miles. It included all the Maintenance records and the back seat leather looked like it had never been used. We are enjoying it (Well, my wife is driving it, so she's enjoying it.)
I also wanted to say thanks for some very helpful posts from some folks here. I used LexMex's post on cleaning the MAF sensor and IACV to go from 16 mpg (city) to 18+ mpg (city).
Also, after putting in a K&N filter, I used another post to clean the MAF sensor again after a check engine light came on. Someone else's post to clean and re-oil the K&N on only the fresh air side prevented further CEL's.
Then, today, the thing wouldn't idle. From some experience with IAC's on a '96 Vette, I again used LexMex's post to find the IACV and actually remove the IACV motor and clean the IACV again. (The IACV shaft seemed to have seized.) This loosened the shaft nicely and the car started right up and idled normally.
Anyway, THANKS, folks for the great posts!
If any of you have links or thoughts on the following issues , it would also be appreciated:
1--Front seat belts not retracting smoothly.
2--Sounds like a little bit of noise coming from the exhaust--lower front/middle (manifold?) under the car (purring sound heard mainly when outside of the car).

For your problem #1, I would go to the dealer or look online for something similar product like the I have included in a PDF file attachment. I don't think the problem is where the seatbelt wines up from, but the seatbelt it self could be dirty and as it goes through the shoulder belt anchor it wont allow it to retract it as smooth. The price of this kit to solve your problem is about $20 part number---> 73205–48011

Item 2:
Typical RX problem is a leak in the flex joint in the exhaust. If you do search you will find pics posted by Lexmex.

Hm I think I had that problem before where I heard some noise coming from the exhaust piping and it was due to a blow gasket. Its like a soft puring sound where it seems like air is escaping. For me it was located in the lower front of the car where the piping comes down and also a gasket where the manifold is located for me was also blown.
Maybe it is the same problem?

Well, the 'purring' sound was a cracking Flex Pipe as mentioned.
Replaced with good results. (Cough) Expensive piece of pipe!
Thanks for the direction there, all.
