2000 RX300. Manual says dealer can program doors to lock when car put into forward gear and unlock when engine shut off.
Dealer says can't be done.
Can anyone confirm the reality here ?

The dealer can program the doors to lock when car is put into gear. I have never heard of the capability to automatically unlock the doors when the engine is shut off, or any other similar state. Can you tell us where you read this in the manual? The dealer programmed my mother's 2002 ES300 to lock the doors when the car is put into gear, and I find it a real pain. The doors stay locked until you take action manually.

Its annoying because the doors will not lock when the key is on (which has benefits) but when my kids &/or pet is in the car & I want to leave the air on for them while I run in to the gas station (my kids are teenagers) I still want to lock the doors but no can do if engines running. Also when engines running & I try to pump gas it makes the engine sound like it ideling faster then maybe is going to die???

Checked with Lexus of Seattle and they say that the 00 300 can be programmed for automatic unlock but no automatick lock ?? (8(
