That is what I understood and was plannign to do since I have floor jack and a pair big jack stands from Sears, but it seems from what I read in the forum that the standard jacks that one buys (Sears, for example) won't fare well with the jack points on the side that are meant for the factory jack due to the "lip"...

I consider a major reason to use a floor jack is to be able to utilize the center jack points (i.e., center-front and center-rear) to raise the car, so you can use the side jack points (i.e., front-left, front-right, rear-left, and rear right) for jack stands. This works well for me. I invested in four jack stands, to facilitate tire rotation, but wheel chocks and one or two jack stands should be fine, with or without the floor jack remaining in place. Just be very careful concerning work that could put power on the drive-wheels while any of the drive wheels are on the ground.

Bob200:
Scissors jack head has a slot for the seam. Do your jack-stands have a slot for the seam? Regular jack-stand head (the point that contacts the vehicle) would crush/warp the seam. If you have discovered a safe way to place them away from the seam, please share.

I have heard of adater heads, but have not found a place that sells them.

If you don't reuse all the shims supplied with the original pads, be sure to keep the extras safe in the case original pads are reinstalled in the future.
Note the way the shim tabs are located to interlock the shims. When installed, the shim tabs face away from the disk on both inner and outer pads.

I see your point. These are the ones I use:

They're not flat, but not notched either. Some places I've gone to lift the car on hydralic lifts just have flat plates for contact point, so these jack stands are better than that. I only plan to hold on to the car for 10 years or so.

These look cool! I guess I can use two of these in conjunction with the regular jack stands and the floor jack to lift both wheels of the ground while leaving the floor jack under the center of the car as insurance support.

I wonder if they sell these at local Pep Boys.

Never mind. I can use it with a floor jack but I shouldn't use it with a jack stand since it is probably not safe to put a jack stand underneath it. I will still use one to use the floor jack to lift each wheel up instead of using the factory scissor jack. I just have to do it one wheel at a time
