Default i need help with my radio

I need help…. my 1999 rx300 radio is not working and I am trying to get to the antenna but don’t now how. If I drive close to a radio station the radio works. And I look in back of the radio and the antenna is connected so I am assuming it is the antenna or the connection in the back. Please can anybody help me.

Do you see the antenna mast extened out when you are in radio mode?

If so, the next step ought to be removing panels to get to the back of the radio and see if the connection there is good.

Once you eliminate the antenna + wire, there is a possibility that there is something wrong with the head-unit.

Other information, like what event caused the radio not to work would be helpful.

The radio was working and it stop it sounds like the antenna is not hook up I get the engine noise. I check the radio and the antenna is connected, I think I have to get to the antenna in the back but I don’t know how. By the way the antenna doses go all the way up

Thank you

If you still have access to the head unit, test out by plugging an external antenna {radio shack or other]. By the symptoms you describe the problem seems to be in the headunit. The antenna wire is robust and does not go bad by itself.

It has been few months but some one described how they replaced the antenna motor. May be some one can post motor removal process from the service manual. [although you antenna motor is good] you may have a break in the antenna wire [unlikely though]

Oooo, I almost forgot to mention that at times the presets for radio drift. ie if you have set "2" to FM104.5 one fine day it will try to tune 103.x. Solution is to reprogram the pre-set.

Before you do more exploration, I would suggest ry the manual tune.

Can some one confirm that the RX has two antennas [whip/mast] + "Y" (yagi) built in the rear glass.
If so, connecitons to both antennas need to be bad to get very weak signal.

If you have already tried manual tuning, its time for a new head unit or have the current one repaired.

I would check the power going into the head unit. Check the fuse. Check the grounding. It sounds like you have a power flow issue. I had a head unit make more noise when the engine was on because of a bad power wire. It's not your antenna because you get the same problem when you hook up the external antenna.

This is just my opinion and I am just giving suggestions as to what to look at.
