Default rx 300 Coach Rims problem

I have an 2002 RX300 Coach Edition where the rims/wheels have black steaks on them. It looks like brake dust but cannot be cleaned off. The car is still under warranty but my dealer stated it is not a warrantied item. They claim a forgien agent has come in contact with it and voids the warranty. Has anyone had this problem and what can I do about it since the car is still under warranty?

Rims are chrome or silver clearcoat?

Rims are exposed to brake dusts, heat and other corrosive stuff such as road salt. You can try with 3M rubbing compound for removing swirl marks.

I would not use commercial wheel cleaners as they tend to be acidic and my harm the finish on some wheels.

A friend of mine had his 2003 911 C4S in for detailing and, long story short, the detailing place is paying to refinish 4 of his wheels at $750 (CAD)/ each.

I would try repeated washes with plane automotive soap and warm (not hot) water...

You can see by taking a close look, if in fact the finish is lost.
With any luck it will only be the result of caked-on brake dust.

Good luck.

My 2000 RX300 silver clearcoat wheels were fairly weathered and aged. Last summer I used Mother's Mag Wheel polish and they cleaned up very nicely. For normal cleaning I just use my car wash water, which is Meguiar's NXT. I never use the spray on acidic stuff.
