60000 Service-RX 300.Questions???
Hello,
My 2001 RX 300 is due for the 60K service. Is this servive basically an oil change?? I was thinking of doing the service myself. Some salesman at a Lexus dealership told me about "carbon deposits being cleaned from the cylinder heads" during this service????
I did not see this in the service manual??
Any such thing done at 60K?????

A little more than an oil change. Your 90K is the big one (belts & water pump (recommended)). Some places will tell you 60K belts, but that is overkill.
You can if you want change your spark plugs at this time...though usually can wait until 90K. ATF fluid (a must).
As far as that carbon deposit stuff...not necessary. If you want to do it yourself buy some Seafoam.

- Transmission Flush (debatable - i had them do it with toyota type iv fluid)
- Radiator Flush
- Oil Change
- Air filter change
- Clean fuel injectors
- Clean throttle body/IACV (this is the "carbon deposit") - this was important to me cause my car was having trouble idling after the engine was warmed up - this is somewhat common in toyotas/lexus'
- Change front/rear differential
- tire rotation
All the other intermediate services I do myself (oil changes etc)
I am paranoid since my previous car went through 2 tranny's. The transmission is working great and smooth after the flush. Hope this helps. I didn't change my break fluid (I did this at 30k) I don't think this is major although it is recommended
