Redline at startup??
Quick question, why is it that when you start the car (talking cold start mostly) your redline is far lower than the normal 7200-7300 rpm? It seems like it progressively raises after some time driving/warming up.

because the computer doesn't want you to tax the motor until the oil is warmed up.
going WOT on a cold motor is very bad for the motor. so you are limited to 6,000 rpm until the oil reaches operating temperature.

I was hoping it was something useful/intelligent like this, thanks! My only guess was something about engine temp but wasn't positive.

I have regularly seen it as low as 2.5k-3k rpm when I first started the car this winter. The redline is gradually raised as the temperature increases until it's back to 7.3k. The transmission will also automatically upshift when the rpm hits the new redline if you are in manual mode (until the redline is back to normal, then it will no longer upshift by itself in manual mode).

interesting, so it seems to depend on outside temps some how. mine has never been below 6,000 but I live in SoCal so it's never very cold here.

I start the car with Enform most of the time. But when it just sits there at idle it doesn't get fully warmed up in 10 minutes on cold days.
I just interviewed with Lockheed in Orlando on Wednesday for a new contract. I should know something by Monday. So hopefully I'll be back in sunny Florida soon. I'm tired of this cold weather.

Even in Atlanta it takes 25 minutes of street driving to get the oil to normal temp in the winter. 9.5 quarts needs a lot of heat to get to 180F. At the track, it only takes a lap to get it above normal street temperature on the IS F. Not sure about the RC and GS cars because they have an additional thermostatically controlled air/oil cooler the IS does not have.

When it's 20 degrees outside? That would require something very special. Coolant isn't even up to temp in 2 miles. I automatically put the GS F in sport mode when I start it. I've never seen it warm any more quickly than normal.

oh well you didn't specific the temp.. I live in SoCal, I only see 20° if I go to the mountains. seldom lower than 45° around here.
