Default Odd Popping Noise from Tires

Anyone else experience random popping noises Frm the tires when driving? It doesn't matter what speeds slow, fast randomly hear this POP noise like the car is going over something on the road (no I'm not going over anything)

I'm not sure what it could be. If it's not the clicking of an odd stone lodged in the tread, I'd say one of the belts on one of the tires may be delaminating or a bearing going south. I'd get it into the shop and see if they can hear it.

Does this happen to you when you first start it up and in reverse when turning at a steep degree of curve? seems like mine is doing this in the morning, when its cold (18 - 20F) but doesn't when the car is warm

yes I get that too, feels like a pop from the ?suspension ?control arm? sway bars?

and only when cold.

is that normal?

I'm pretty sure this is the Michelin PSS. I had this same phenomenon with my G37 running PSS, and now with this car. I believe that the soft tread compound of the PSS gets abnormally stiff in cold temps, making the tire have a very temporary flat spot from sitting overnight or however long.

So ignore it or take it in to get it looked at?

Default poping tires

I had the same thing with the RCF when backing up with the PPS when cold out. Same with my Genesis Coupe when cold out. No problem now with Blizzacks on the Genesis for winter.

Mine does the same thing in the morning with cold tires, then it goes away after a few minutes of driving. My TPMS also act up occasionally in the morning indicating the tire with most pressure as 'low' lol

^^^^^This...it's the tread compound.

Getting it hear as well. On a very cold day, after the car has been sitting for many hours, the tires will pop when I reverse the car from the parking space and completely turn the wheel to the left or right while backing up. Once the tires are hot, this goes away.

Remember: these are not winter tires and they really want to be hot.

I think all of us driving in cold temps are getting it.

I personally would not worry about it.

Yeah my advice - don't bother. When I had this on my G37 and didn't know what it was I took it to a local shop that does alignment and had them go through it and spec everything up. Of course it continued because it's the tires so I took it back and they showed me that the alignment was spec'd before I finally figured out it was the tires.

In the colder months be sure to reset the tire air pressure in a stable environment...

So set it to 36 psi after the car has not been driven for several hours and the tires have been cooled down..

"Recommended Cold Tire Inflation Pressure"




I set my tire pressure once a month... Establishes proper tire tread wear, traction and gas mileage..

I feel better now to know it wasn't just me. But I'll be honest, I about ***** a brick when I first heard it. I thought I backed into something. I'm still getting used to backing up with a rear camera.

The car one is a good guide...

For a great tool, I like use a digital tire gauge that supports fractions...
