Consistent lag during 3-4 gear shift
#32
Update: took mine in to the dealer a couple weeks ago, they kept it overnight and the lead tech took it out next morning. He confirmed what i described, a hesitation between 4th and 5th, happens only on the first couple of shifts when the car is cold, usually only the first. He emphasized that the car is in protected mode when cold, revs limited, etc. They did a full diagnostic on it, found nothing out of spec or trouble codes, etc. Conclusion: this is not problematic or indicative of a malfunction, but they have it in the maintenance history now and emphasized to me to bring it back if it seems to change behavior, i.e. gets "worse", etc. He explained to me that the torque converter goes into mechanical lock beginning in 4th, I think in S and S+ modes, possibly this has something to do with the hesitation in conjunction with protected mode. So I'm not really sure if this is specifically the same problem that others are experiencing.
As an aside and FYI, they can pull a whole history of your driving habits from the ECU, for example instances of full throttle and braking, traction control intervention, and other things that you definitely wouldn't want your insurance company to have access to. In fact they gave me the print-out. Not sure that I'm real comfortable with that...

I've noticed that under mid-throttle condition, there is a jarring lag when the car shifts from 3rd to 4th gear. Always exactly from 3rd to 4th gear.. no other gears. The car will literally lurch as if the gas is cut momentarily. If the pedal is mashed to the firewall (which.. it frequently is).. then it shifts fine.
What is this? Is this normal?

Otherwise, select normal mode.

I can almost buy into this being due to the car being in protected mode, but I still don't think it should happen, it's not normal operation for an AT to pause like that between shifts. Since it only happens on the first shift or two, I'm gonna let it go for now, but not happy about it.

I have the same thing occurring, although I can't say I have noticed a specific time it has happened, it does seem to be always near my house, so maybe just when engine is cold.
The best and only way I can describe it, is by saying that it is IDENTICAL to turbo lag. Stomp gas....hesitation in acceleration. Almost like intake is slow to respond to request for air...

the issue is there in all models ( temporary fix )
This particular issue has more theories than many MCU movies.
One fix i found is ( temporary) , for city traffic, shift till 4th manually and then got to automatic.
But from 3rd to 4th, take care to shift only at 2800-3000 rpm.

What year is your car? I have a 15, took the car in for the fuel "wining" noise on extended trips. They flashed the ECU to increase the fuel pressure. After I got it back it resolved the hesitation. TSB L-SB-0031-16
It literally came back a completely different car, very positive
They said they had to hear the noise. I offered the service manager to ride in the rear on my next 500 mile trip to Tennessee and Uber back. He declined, I got the TSB

I just took the ancient thread time machine back to 2015. Sadly, I could find nothing when I arrived. It's still a mystery.
