Radar detector feedback - need to buy one!!!
#16
What is the best detector is a constant discussion over on some of the radar detector forums, i.e., radardetector.net, etc. I personally use the V1 but many of the Escorts are probably just at good as detecting radar.
I looked at the Passport and may get one for the GPS capability but the only thing holding me back is the "stealthiness" of the unit.
I have my main V1 unit mounted up high on the windshield for better radar reception but the unit stays blacked out due to the V1 concealed display that I mounted on my steering column. No one sees the unit light up except me which is just how I like it. No tailgaters, no police, etc. When Escort finally comes out with a remote unit that gives me arrows, bands, etc. as the head unit and lets the head unit stay dark, I'll probably try one out.

The new Escort MAX 360 has an INCLUDED remote unit plugs into the cig lighter that powers the naim unit. You can make the main unit to go complete dark (if you don't want people around you to SHARE ). THE main unit will still announce what band, red light camera, speed trapz, and etc.

Also, I find it very difficult to use the Escort Smartcord powered by the cigarette plug when the plug for the RC is in the center console.
Being able to hear the detector doesn't work well when your music volume is up, etc.
Can anyone with a Escort 360 Max confirm that a remote display is available that has the same info as the head unit (arrows, band, etc.) and is powered separately from the cigarette lighter outlet?
Thanks!

Ale: any detector can be hard wired in, and most come with cords for that purpose. Even if one does not, you are dealing with 12v only, and can simply cut off the lighter plug and attach the wires to the power source of your choice, although you certainly don't want that coiled cord running across your windshield, so you should probably replace that, as well. Use standard phone cord, which is what many detectors use as their standard cord.

I'm very happy with the V1 and bought a remote display with different colored leds to denote the different radar bands, etc. I usually have the stereo turned up and don't hear the audible alerts so I rely on the remote unit mounted on the sterring column for visual alerts.
The Escort Max 360 intrigues me but only if the remote unit displays the same info as the head unit. So far I haven't seen that it does though I may be missing something on the Escort website.

You can bluetooth the Escort Max 360 to you smartphone.
Youtube reviews.
Please note I have no relations to any of these people.
Please note with the V1 you will need to have additional units attached or bluetoothed to the V1 in order to accomplish what the Escort MAX360 can do as a totally self contained unit.

I was all excited until I looked at the Escort website. The included remote display looks to be the same "Smartcord" that has been available for years from Escort. Does the INCLUDED remote give you the exact same info as the head unit?

I have found that using the V1 via Savvy for power, and the remote readout (placed conveniently on the far left, above the vent) and the Bluetooth connector takes up all the connections and otherwise makes further splitting of the signal ineffective, and does not allow me to simultaneously use the remote mute button I have, which I used in my SC430 on the turn signal stalk (without the Savvy or the Bluetooth). However, I have found that using the phone app while driving is of little added value, especially if you have your iPad Mini running Waze also.
I use the Bluetooth connection to allow me to program the V1 (see the radar detector forum for some excellent suggestions for various programing changes), and those changes stay with the V1, even without the the Bluetooth connection or the phone app running.
What would be nice is if Valentine upgraded the V1 with Bluetooth built in, but my guess is that the extra cost would have to be paid by everyone, not just those who wanted the Bluetooth, so for now it remains an option. Perhaps when the Bluetooth technology gets a little less expensive, it will get incorporated into the device itself. It's certainly not the size - I just got a pair of Bose Bluetooth headphones and they work great despite their small size and weight (you might want to look into those, as the smart money says Apple is taking the headphone jack out of the next iPhone, so you will have to go with a Bluetooth set, a new set with a lightening connector, or buy an annoying adapter.)

Well, I guess one can not have it ALL. There will always some pluses and minuses.

I just don't want all those things connected to my V1. I wanted a simple all in one self contained unit. Hence, I got the Escort Max 360.
If I don't want to share or announce to the world that I have a radar detector running in the car, I just go dark on the Escort Max 360 and the voice prompt is still on and the warning lights are still active at the cig lighter plug end. In the RCF, I have an extension splitter plug tuning into the center console cig lighter plug. I will eventually do a hard wire tap.
