Default $20 Low temp thermostat @ enjuku

Yo dudes, just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the SR/KA thermostat works in the 2jz and is on sale at enjuku right now. Thats exactly what Im running in my own personal car because we have no other option besides the mishimoto stat! Enjuku is offering free shipping too if you use the code ISIS3FREE.

why would you want a lower thermostat rating?

see....its funny to me. i swear i have seen you say several times that your a mechanic but if you are, you should easily know this.... the motor keeps cooler if the thermostat kicks on at a lower temp and since heat kills making it cooler is a good thing.

nice find Steven wonder if this will work for the V8's

Has its advantages Brian but it also has the side effect of low gas mileage since the car isn't fully warmed to the specified operating temperature. Wouldn't that keep the motor in open loop for longer periods? I can definitely see turbo applications benefiting from it

lower temp thermostats has its + and -'s.

unless you are running mods that would make the car constantly run at a higher temp, there is no advantage of the lower temp thermostat. like others have said, it will lower your gas milage as your car cannot run at optimal temperature. if you live in a hot climate, the lower temp thermo might be benefitial. at the same time, the difference is about 20C from a regular thermostat that opens around 90C to a low temp one that opens at 70C.

your better off just buying a bottle of water wetter. essentially breaking down the water tension of your antifreeze so that it can do a better job at heat transfer.

Well, Ive been running this about 2 months now on the factory rad.. In cool weather, my temp only drops to about 170 (under 70*), 80s is like 180s... then 190-200 in 80+ degree temps, based on whether or not Im using the turbos. at the track, I was overheating really fast and I really wanted to do something to delay the overheating process without upgrading the rad.

Damn, I told Ken to make the announcement... lol. I ordered mishimoto's through you guys and it was on backorder for months, then found out this little trick after cross referencing a ton of part numbers. Luckily i had a brand new isis sr stat sitting in my 240 to try out first..

there ya go, you track your gs, so its gettings more use than the average daily driving.

the lower rad would help, maybe a higher pressure cap w/ a water to antifreeze ratio coolant, i would lean even towards 2 parts water, 1 part antifreeze if your over heating + a bottle of water wetter. redline, royal purple, are just a couple names i can remember off the top of my head that make these for the coolant.

well, even on the highway, the turbos are in use and it kicks the temp up quickly. like this cool morning i was running at 172, and once i got to highway rpms, 190.. I never really fall under 170 since the install, whereas a stock 180 thermostat, 190 was the Lowest temp i could hit once warmed up. I just hate being in the 200s when I need to push the turbos more, 212(boiling point of water) is only a few seconds away.... the stat def helped me stay under 200, even on the 100 degree days..

I actually already run a high pressure cap, and I wouldnt recommend it for DD.. and the water wetter **** seems to always be a waste of money.. I used to run it, I just dont see the need for it anymore. it didnt do much to offset cost.

yeah, I totally tried to do that, but its $30 from nissan... the aftermarket oem ones are mostly rated at 82 for whatever reason.. When I went to pep boys and advance, they only carried the 180*F(82*c) as an "oem" unit @ $15... weird, right?
