2jzgte obd1 swap into IS300
Well i did it once before and ill attempt to do it again. Has anyone go abouts taking a JDM NON VVTi 2jzgte obd1 Automatic and swapped it into anything particulary an IS300 and made it pass NYS emissons?? I already have swapped the motor and ran it in my 92 SC300 but got new ride and want to do the same in the IS300. Im thinking a 96 manual trans ecu on a 2jzgte with no VVTI and changing the body connectors and adding a sensor or 2?

The only possible way would be to change to vvti head, change crank gear to vvti gear, and run stock is300 ecu with aem ems or a piggyback of sorts.....

I suppose technically you could make that setup run and drive, but when I worked at an emissions station, data was gathered from the ecu and if it didnt match the car, it would fail... not to mention failing the visual portion of the test... if you do, you will lose all of your dash gauges except maybe rpm...

so mainly it all about this dam VVTI... Hmm.. it would be nice to run it with out the VVTI.. and would suck more after rebuilding the whole top end and freshened it up with ARP studs.. Time to sell motor? and buy a VVTI gte?
I had luck on some 5sfe camry motors converting it to obd2 just had to change the oil pump to add a crank sensor and a few diff plugs and evap VSV and walla run and drive no lights.. maybe someone has or i could make a simple resistor to by bass the VVTi and fooling it. i have a resistor to keep the down stream o2 sensors from thinking its a cat. so maybe this might be possible as well with out to much complications? I got a friend i been meaning to call out in Cali works with AEM maybe he got something for me.

I have the jdm 2jzgte vvti running in my is300 and have everything working besides the temperature gauge using the aristo computer. I'm sure if you are using the non vvti gte, it would be easier with the 01 is300 as I don't belive they run multiplex system.

wow im glad i found this thread, its exactly what im debating about doing also
sorry to thread jack but its pretty much the same kind of question
i have a non vvti gte/r154 with a supra tt auto diff swapped in my 92 sc300, and am looking another for a sc300 shell but i have been thinking of buying a is300 instead and swapping all of it into a is300.
i already have a aem v1 that i would be using in there when i pull the motor to drop into another shell and go single.
So off the bat im thinking i would buy a obd2 6 speed tt harness and wiring is300 body plugs to it and selling my wired obd1 6 speed harness for the sc300.
Would i be able to get away with just the aem v1 or would i run into the same issue like stated above where id loose all the dash gauges and have no chance with inspection?
i did just start my research on the is300 side and am still going to continue to, but any direction or help would be great

Dash except coolant temp and fuel level can be made to work, best I can tell, if you have an 01, speedo might be an issue with 02-05... The IS300 harness should mostly plug up to your existing, but a 6 speed harness won't even come close, as the ecu in an IS is drivers side front part of the engine bay...
What I did, and this would probably work for you, wire the aem as a piggyback, resolder two resistors for cam and crank signal and feed those to the stock IS ecu as well as the aem, this way the IS ecu can report obd2 info (this will only work with a vvti motor, BTW), and then fool all the rest of the sensors to the IS Ecu, keep them happy and obd2 will potentially report everything is fine... I haven't gone as far as making all my sensors happy, as I don't have to worry about emissions, but I keep my factory ecu for trans, drive by wire, and a few other things...
