GS430 Better Tranny shifts just by adjusting dial?

When I did mine I had to unbolt the dipstick tube because it did not want to seperate at all. Also, after a few months of driving after doing the mod the part throttle shifts aka normal driving is not harsh at all. It feels normal or maybe a little quicker, but nothing like a built auto with a valve body upgrade. WOT shifts do feel quicker. For comparison my brother had a pontiac firebird with a built auto and a valve body upgrade and the car would chirp in every gear, this is nowhere close.

Thanks for the help, Sam430 & 850Lexus. I'll try the chisel/putty knife method. Hope it'll work. Car is garaged atm, so I'll have plenty of time to work on it.
I don't expect any major changes in shifting with this mod. It's just a different setting. But faster shifts at WOT are most welcome.

I have never hit WOT in this car. It is my DD so normal driving is great, no hard shifting. It is still Lexus smooth, it just has a little more of a crisp feel. It is a little quicker, barely noticeable. I put about 1,000 miles on my GS in a week and I have lost zero drive ability doing this.

Just caught this thread and I just so happened to be changing out my tranny filter today. Note that I already have the valve body mod (originally offered by Rod Millen Motorsport) on my car since I bought it. When I dropped the pan to look for this dial, low and behold the adjustment had already been made ! ! !
So apparently RMM has known about this adjustment and I suspect it was part of the process when the new valve body was installed.
You can take my assumptions for what it's worth but the REAL point here is that I have been running with this modification for over TEN YEARS of which my car has been supercharged for 5+ of those years.
It goes without saying that I have driven my car hard on occasion and I can tell you the tranny has functioned without any reliability issues thoughout these 10+ years. Also note that I have a hi stall TC and I'm running AMSoil synthetic.
Based on my findings, I'd say this mod is good to go.

My transmission blew after i did this adjustment. It drove fine for the first couple of days. Then i noticed the rpms were slightly different. When coasting the car rpms would drop significantly. I checked the fluid level many times and it was always cherry red and upto hot with 10-15mins of driving. It blew coming home one day in rush hour traffic. Car accelerated really slow and would leap violently forward this went on for a couple of minutes until i found somewhere safe to pull over. Had to get it towed because it would no longer move in gear. I got a use tranny with 130000km(80000miles). Got it installed and car was back to the way it was. This time i opted out of touching that dial. Btw my car has 250000k(150000miles). Just thought id share.
Heres a picture of the tranny i took out.

mtofique, I think your tranny already had a problem of some sort prior to changing the setting.
Apparently Lexus adjusts the setting on the tranny for some countries. Mine (Euro GS), for instance, was set on position 2 from factory, whereas the US GS seem to come set on position 3 from factory.
I have a hard time believing that changing the setting could harm a perfectly healthy transmission. This is really not a modification, rather a simple adjustment.
