Default How many 2JZ-GTE engine swaps are there in the U.S.?

As for the qusetions, I'm only addressing the 2JZ-GTE and the Getrag 6 speed transmission swap into a SC 300. Let's get a poll going on how many turbocharged SC 300 are there and how many are there in manual vs. automatic the best transmission.

the only swap that matters is the whole thing, GTE+Getrag

Hey ethan, why do you throw so much praise to the automatic when you have a six speed? Just curious to see if its regret for a little mistake you might have made in the past.....?

You should have everyone that is on this board sign in on this thread to start somewhere with a count.

I'll start

ewww...getrag...

I'm considering a GTE swap after I get my Supra project to a "tolerable" stage...but I can't see going with either Getrag. I could live with the 6spd IF it were gotten for an unbelievable deal. I'll take the W58 any day...or the R154 if I decide I need a dyno queen.

The W58 as got to be the smoothest and fastest shifting tranny I've ever handled. The R154 is clunky...the V160 is clunky and slow...and the V161 feels like you're shifting bricks (at least it's not slow).

After 450 RWHP the W58 feels great -- amazing how smooth a car shifts when the gears are all over the street.

the V160 has been proven to well over 800 RWHP, the W58 not so much. Another bonus to the V160 is stealing the MKIV rear end as well... an LSD does some nice things when you like putting power to the wheels.

SW's 10 second SC300 has a 6 speed. Clint's 93 w/ 800 horsies does too.

Unlike with your IS300, the 6 speed actually fits easily. The 95-97 5 speeds don't need to modify the tranny tunnel, the pre 95s can do it easy as pie -- there's a how to floating around here.

I've never heard anyone prefer the W58 over the v160...hmmm.

I am working with my friends right now to start an offical Turbo SC Registry on my domain... I am going to transition it from my homepage to a registry, kinda like to4r.com, but with no guidelines other then the whole turbo thing.

Stay tuned it should be going in a couple weeks!

You missed what I meant...the W58 isn't built strong enough the handle loads of power....but it's great where it was designed for. Several cars are holding well over 300whp with the W58. For me, a person who realizes that 1/4 mile straight-lining and dyno-queen shinanigans aren't the only things cars are good for, I don't need much more than 300whp.

When it comes to driving...I'll take the W58 over anything else. If, for some reason I decide that drag racing is my thing, I'll take up an R154. The V series just doesn't feel right...

...and this from Supra Forums:

Consider my mind overthrown.

I see your point, but if you're going to turbo a car, why stop short of doing it right? 300-400 RWHP is nice, but the look on that M5 drivers face when you destroy him completely... well, that's more than just nice. It's teaching him a lesson in pounds per square inch.

About the getrag swaps: anyone figured out how to get the tranny not to sit so low that the stock shifter looks like a short-shifter?

The shifter sits low in the MKIV (yes, that's JDM, but you get the idea)
