Default Slicks and an open diff?

Does anyone know how treacherous slicks are when running an Independent Rear Suspension with an open diff? Reason is, I'm trying to gauge which would give me a better timeslip for less money--- an LSD or Slicks? I don't want something that is gonna be a death trap. I tried to get the TRD MKIV TT auto LSD while the clutch is out of the car, but its 3-6 weeks away. I'm assuming that it has to come from Japan or is special order. Any ideas? Mickey Thompsons and 15" cheapo wheels are pretty cheap for the traction they provide.

i dunno scott, but the problem with slicks is you can't run them all the time; and they don't like cruising all that much; they wear out extremely fast... and they aren't good for sustained high speeds

an LSD is always working and will always give you good traction (compared to open diff)...

though slicks are cheaper

its sorta like boost vs nitrous... you can run one and get by ok; but running both kicks ***
