Default Risky? OBDII to OBDI. Has it been done?

I am about to see if the OBDI ECU works fine on my OBDII. I hope everything works fine. Other things I am testing out of curiosity are:

Supra TT Pressure AFM
LS400 Karman AFM
LS400 Pressure AFM

So far:

With OBDII the following is true:
Stock SC300 Pressure AFM: Real shaky idle, not much power
Supra TT Pressure AFM: Builds boost faster, stable idle, still not much power down low but wheels start to break at around 25MPH
LS400 Karman AFM: Would not start. Different connector. I suspect that this has to do with the setting they used on the S-AFC. I will try again
LS400 Pressure AFM:Builds boost faster, stable idle, still not much power down low but wheels start to break at around 25MPH

I think the LS400 Pressure AFM and TT AFM are pretty much the same thing with a different part number. They look and behave the same way.

I am going to pop in the ECU and see what happens with each. All the bay area tuners are unavailable right now so I am going to play. ATP's tuner is in jury duty and Bob Nomura (big-time Supra tuner) is not responsive.

Does anyone know how to temporarily disable the S-AFC btw?

Hermosa,

I think it sounds risky. You may end up frying that engine if you are not detonating that thing now. If it were my car, I would trailer that thing to a shop wth experience and just pay them. Toying around is costing you GAS MONEY at 2mpg

I guess when it comes down to it, sending your SC to PHR with $15k in it would have been cheaper!!

There is noone to tune it. I can't find an experienced person to tune it. Everyone is unavailable. I might bring the SC400 up until someone is available or get a something to drive around like a GS400 or maybe build up a Tacoma for fun. I hear the Tacomas are not too shabby off-road.

Go with the Tacoma, they are affordable, reliable and will go anywhere. Even a little 4 cylinder Tacoma 4X4 will be unstoppable. I used to own one, it never broke down once, had 185k miles, and never once got stuck. I rescued many a F-150 from mud pits

Jeeze, you gave Lance $15k for a stage 2 kit? He only charged me $6k for a stage 1.5(ish) kit.

I've had no problems at all related to the kit --- have had it apart three times in two years, never an issue - always starts, runs, idles very well. Even with the new 270 cam it idles fairly well.

Lance would be the one to answer your OBD II to I question. I've talked to him about it before, but don't remember the conversation cause it didn't directly pertain to my situation. He has experience with ECU swaps on those OBDII cars. Its a shame you and Lance are on shaky ground right now.

Have you thought about doing the AEM ECU?

I have not tried the AEM. How good is it?

I wish that guy did respect all his customers and products too.

I might try the ECU swap anyway but I might ask Carson Toyota if they can send me an electrical drawing of both ECUs.

Default Swap the ECUs

One of my supra NA friends has a 97 supra and swapped out the OBD II ecu with a 94 NA OBDI ecu. Also, a lot of the Supra guys on supraforums have done the OBDi swap. ( one of them is Andi Barichi who is well known on supraforums.com )

Yeah I have been reading those over the last week and am feeling a compunction to do that as well.
