Default Crank Pulley Removal Tool Schley #64300

Just wanted to post my experience with a great crank pulley/harmonic balancer remvoval tool. It's made by Schley Tools, Model #64300. This tool was a god's send in assisting the removal of a bad crank pulley/harmonic balancer on my Lexus and then doing a timing belt on another. This tool along with a $10 Harbor Freight cheater bar (and a long steel pipe for added leverage!) was what I needed to loosen that freaking crank bolt. The Schley #64300 tool ain't cheap new, about $80, but you can sometimes find them used on Ebay. It's a big hunk of metal but it really does a killer job. I saved big time money doing these jobs myself with the help of this tool. If you got some major engine work coming up you should really consider this tool.

That's cool, this tool allows you to DIY this job for sure, jump on it. Pop a cheater bar into the tool and let the cheater bar come to rest on the front frame rail. Then take another 1/2" long cheater bar and a quality 6 sided torque socket with a long *** pipe OVER the bar (for big time added leverage!) and then loosen that freaking crank bolt. The factory really torques that sucker down and that's when the Schley 64300 tool becomes a god send in allowing to loosen (and tighten back up) that crank bolt. I used my next door neighbor who use to play football (lineman) to bear down on that 7 ft iron pipe cheater bar. I laughed out loud how easy it was for him the break loose that crank bolt! With a bit of muscle, weight, and leverage you can move the earth! Once the crank bolt is out just take a simple pulley puller to remove the crank pulley.

Note: When I say 1/2" long bar< I meant to say it is a !/2" DRIVE SOCKET CHEATER BAR. You can get these cheater bars at Harbor Freight/Northern Tool etc for about $10 on sale and they are approx 24" long. Have fun!

I thought about getting one of those for my 1JZ I was trying to pull the balancer on, I ended up just using a steering wheel puller to get it off using 2 bolts, but it was a Driftmotion lightweight tool...dunno if the stock pulley had the 2 small holes in it for that.

Keep in mind, this Schley #64300 tool LOCKS the CRANK from MOVING, so you can then loosen the CRANK PULLEY BOLT that is torqued from the factory at a VERY high torque setting.

That's the tool! I needed a lot longer cheater bar than you used. I will say I use my hydraulic jack handle a lot when I need a quick cheater bar extension, works great .

Oh whoops, sorry had a retard moment when I posted lol I just jammed a screwdriver in the starter hole through a flexplate hole. I figure if I bent it any, no biggie, I'm putting a flywheel and 5 speed on it anyways.

I totally endorse using this tool, even if its a one-time-use. I can't imagine doing the job any other way. I also used a cam pulley tool (Wilmar W89208 Cam Pulley Holder) that helps hold it in place while getting that nut off. Same idea - essential when replacing the cam seals.

I made the tool at home and already used it 3 times on different Lexus vehicles.

All it needs is three holes in a wide metal bar and 2 high strength metric bolts. Some one posted measurements. You can easily measure off from the flywheel too.
