GS300 trans into SC300 question
The reason I'm asking is my SC300's tranny is acting strange, after it warms up it won't take the car any faster than about 40ish mph before the revs start climbing w/o any acceleration. I'm going to try a transmission filter and some new fluid and see if that fixes it since it's cheap, but if not here's why I'm asking.
The guy I got the car from said he didn't sell the car knowing the trans didn't have much life left, and he's going to make it right by giving me a 94 GS300 auto trans and torque converter that he got from a driving parts car he bought if through some parts swapping it'll work in my car. If the trans filter/flush doesn't fix it then I have access to the trans for free. I know it has the different tail housing and yoke is different, but if I recall the GS300 and SC400 yokes are the same. He even has the front half of an SC400 drive shaft. If I can find a GS300/SC400 yoke (assuming they're exactly the same bolt pattern, size, etc) and install it since he yanked that part for something else, can I fit the GS300 trans to my car, and use the front half of the SC400 driveshaft and get the car to drive?
I think I recall reading something in the past about using half the SC400 driveshaft to do something along these lines. If it won't work at all, at least he's giving me the torque converter and I can go get a local'ish guys low mile SC300 trans, but that's all worst case scenario if the flush/filter doesn't fix it, at least until spring when I 1jz/r154 it.
