Default ATF Level

If you overfill the ATF, will it have a negative effect on the tranny?

Just like an engine with too much oil, an overfilled transmission can aerate the fluid, foaming it up to the point where its friction characteristics change. That can cause shifting problems.

It would have to be very overfilled, though. Mine has been overfilled for 5 years with no ill effect. I didn't even notice it until a quik-lube guy pointed it out to me.

If you have not felt any shifting problems, then it probably is not overfilled to the point where you need to do anything about it.
