i need opinons on transmission swap
Ok guys i have everything ready for my single 1jz swap ready to go except for which route to take with the trans, i kind of need to keep this low cost as possible so here my options 1: i have an auto soarer trans thats in my car on my 1j now but not sure if it will hold up to my 450hp goal and not sure what upgrades are out there for the a340 2: i have a w58 out of my old 87 mk3 BUT i will have to do a full manual swap and 3: almost same as 2 but a guy is willing to sell me his r154 and a 2j bellhousing for $600 but i would still have to buy all the other swap parts....like i stated my goal is only about 400-450hp just notnsure which option will save me the most $$$$ most people will probably just say r154 buti am open minded ao please voice your opionon.

Honestly? Stay with the auto Soarer transmission if you want to keep the cost down. It's not the same as the 2JZ-GE automatic transmission and it will hold some power. I don't know how much but it might do for your power goals.
The MK3 W58 isn't as strong as the W58 found in the SC's and MKIVs. Scratch that.
The R154 is a nice option as long as your friend is willing to sell you his 1JZ-R154 bell housing (R154's never went against 2JZ's from the factory). But having done an MK3 R154 swap myself I can tell you it's not on the cheap side. That said... if you are going with a manual transmission and you don't already have a W58 from an SC or MKIV Supra then I'd recommend going R154.
Alternatively there is the AR-5 5-speed and the Nissan CD009 but you'd have to decide if those are more complicated than what you want to get into.
If you're worried about cost, stay with the Soarer automatic transmission. It will have the least amount of things needed to change and buy in order to bolt everything up.
Also, having seen in person an SC300 with a BPU'd 1JZ-GTE VVT-i swap and only the Soarer 4-speed automatic transmission, it was fun and hauled. You can always swap to a manual later.

IMO I think you should save more money and get the R154. The R154 will hold that power goal and then some. Yes it will cost you more in the long run, clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder, line, etc, but this will keep you from pulling the tranny in the future due to the something breaking or slipping. If you are going to do something, do it right the first time and never look back, that's a lot us older guys motto. GL in your choice and decision.
To answer your question about the 2JZ VVTI stock tranny, I am not sure if it is the same or has more power potential of holding up. You can upgrade the torque convertor in your stock one. Just do a search and ye shall find the answer.

R154 will hold that power all day.
Unless you want to ride the auto til it breaks, and it will eventually.
If you're doing the labor then just save til you can get all the stuff for the R154. If you're NOT doing the labor, do the r154 now. Otherwise you're looking at $500-$1000 bucks wasted labor.
All I'm saying is this...if you keep your car, One way or another, you'll end up with the R154. Now or later.

with that power r-154 or getrag 6 speed.
Other people have tried different options such as a 350z 6 speed, which is also very strong but its a less common swap with less support/info
