Cold Weather & Louse Noise
Hey everyone!
I don't think this is a "problem" at all, but i'm just making sure.
Lately its been minus 15-30 degrees celsius outside. And even by Canadian standards, (well Ontarionian standars) it is cold! When I start my 92 sc400 with 235 000km on it every morning, it hesitates (that is expected) and then I hear this awful whining. It sounds like its from the tranny. When I first shift, it takes a while and when I accelerate it whines even more. Once my engine warms up to 1/4 its totally fine. My guess its just that the tranny is so cold its having a hard time functioning. Am I correct? I take it really easy on the car until the engine warms up.
I got my tranny fluid (4l atf type IV) changed last year.
I got my oil changed to 5w30 2 months ago.
And I don't remember when the differential fluid was changed.
Also, how often should I change the differential fluid, and "what does it do?"
Thanks a lot!

bizzy928,
You need to get a remote car starter and then let your car warmup to an adequate operating temperture before you drive. If it is whining then your oil system has not had a chance to properly lubricate the moving parts. You are therefore wearing out the parts prematurely.
Diff fluid lubricates the differential... Hence, when the drive shaft transfers the rotation to the wheels, the diff properly allocates the proper speed to each wheel. If no diff, then you would have a problem making a turn. If you do not change this oil, you will be buying a new one soon.
