Question High idle & transmission mis shifting?

Hello CL its been a while. Well my 1995 sc300 has a very high idle in park(1.4k-1.6k) most of the time, its very rare where the sc300 idles better around 1k. Also my sc in drive when driving the automatic transmission shifts well until it hits about 3rd gear than the gear ethier holds not shifting to 4th gear, or shifts to 4th but shifts down again and it'll happen repeatedly until it decides what gear to stay on.Sometimes the sc will just shut off while driving fine. The check engine light comes and goes please help i want to take it to a mechanic but im afraid they will tell me some b.s i will be doing research if anyone can help much appreciated

have you been able to pull any codes when the check engine light comes on?
did this just happen recently, or has it been like that since you owned it?

only thing I can think of that would affect all those things is the tps. when set incorrectly the car can idle high and tend to stall in certain positions. I think the ecu uses the tps as a input for deciding when to shift, but the shifting issue could be a separate one not positive on that. try and pull a code if it comes up for the tps that would be a place to start but for now its just my best guess based on what you told me.

I had the same symptoms recently on my 92 sc300 5 speed. Replacing my tps corrected the idle issue. Not sure this applies to auto.
