Default High RPMS/ TRANSMISSION

I have a 2006 IS350 and one day while I was driving my car out of no where the car went to about 5000 RPMS going about 40 miles an hour. I immediately pulled over and freaked out. I recently took it to Lexus and they said to replace the whole transmission or pay 1200 to just figure out the problem -.- of course I left. Anyway I currently still drive the car short distances but only with the car in the manual shift mode primarily because it seems to only catch gears with delay but without revving so high into the RPMS. Need Help ASAP!!!!!! Yes I checked the oil/fluids.

So when it went to 5k rpm, the car kind of slipped out of gear? I mean it didn't just accelerate until it hit 5000 rpm? Or did it shift down gears to get to 5k rpm?

^Yeah, that's my question? Is it slipping IN GEAR to higher rpms OR is it downshifting without warning?

Was this going uphill? Was the engine still cold?

I notice the car revs very high (about 4000rpm) going uphill and when the engine is still cold.

The car would remain in the same gear and will not shift up. Now if I brought the car to a complete stop it would then shift down

I always warm the car before driving and the car was on a flat surface.

So car was in regular D? Did you by chance have the Gear Display (between speedo and tach) showing at the time of the RPM spike? Curious as to what gear the car was in. At about 40mph cruising, my car is in 5th gear.

Is it slipping in all gears or just 5th/6th?

Always check and fill the transmission while the car is running on an even surface.
